Sumario:This article analyzes the processes that adolescent boys in the community of "Las Cañas", Municipality of Arteaga Michoacán, Mexico, go through in the construction of their gender identity and how these processes can facilitate their entry into the world of drug trafficking. The study focuses specifically on adolescents with the objective of gaining more insight into the stages they must undergo to identify themselves as men, and the dynamics between violence and drug-trafficking. It is possible to conclude that factors such as social violence, machismo, masculine stereotypes and power structures continue to prevail as important influences in the individual development and construction of adolescents’ identity.
