Sumario:The objective of the work is to analyze primary education in the National Territories between 1890 and 1940. From a social history starting point, weaddress a set of problematic knots that central power had to carry out the educational venture, namely: the role of local communities in the demands for the creation of schools, the material conditions of buildings, budgetary limitations, the question of the “nationalization” of indigenous communities and, finally, the control of foreign prívate schools.
