Sumario:This research note reflects some of the most significant findings on the importance of sustainable energy in food production in rural Cuba, emphasizing the crucial role of youth in implementing innovative production solutions in this area. Specifically, the connection between the electricity and food sectors is essential to addressing the problems of frequent blackouts on the island and to reducing food imports by promoting local production through the use of renewable energy. To support these arguments, we analyze the case of Cifuentes, a rural municipality in the province of Villa Clara, as an emblematic example due to its energy resources, the agricultural wealth of its territory, and the management of agricultural cooperatives characterized by significant youth participation and a strong innovative approach. The contribution also includes strategic actions to establish sustainable agricultural systems, promote youth participation in cooperative management, and improve food self-sufficiency in Cuba, as is being implemented in the case study used as a reference.
