Sumario:This paper aims to show the importance of visual culture in the transformation of contemporary cities while highlighting global urban homogenization as a result of the economic power reach. These new urban representations -intended to be postcards- are used to justify changes and build urban transcultural imaginaries. This gives rise to brand cities which encourage territorial competitiveness and sector economic strengthening. City emerges as a cultural object to be exported just as any market good. Thus, changes account for city-show priorities that neglect citizens’ real needs. City becomes a “nonplace”, an outdoor store where everything is on sale. Urban skyline as symbolic representation acts as a leading thread of this view in order to understand it as a synthesis of the transcultural and provoking mimesis among cities.
