Este artículo realiza un recorrido por la trayectoria de los estudios del Trabajo en América Latina. Para el autor asistimos a una gran transformación en las formas de pensar la realidad del trabajo de la región desde el momento de dominio de la teoría de la dependencia en el campo de las ciencias sociales y de los estudios del movimiento obrero en lo laboral. Luego del cambio en los paradigmas hegemónicos de las ciencias sociales a principios de la década de los ochenta surgieron lo que denomina 'nuevos estudios laborales' que reconocen cambios teóricos y temáticos de envergadura. Este ensayo es resultado de la revisión exhaustiva de la producción de la región en el campo de estudios laborales desde el reconocimiento de sus antecedentes hasta el período actual, en el que explicita los principales temas y líneas de interés: reestructuración productiva; relaciones laborales, estudios sobre sindicalismo, la sociodemografía del trabajo y la cultura laboral.
This article scrutinizes the trajectory of labor studies in Latin America. Regarding the author we witness a great transformation in the ways of thinking the reality of work in the region from the moment of Dependence Theory’s and labor movement studies’ domination in the field of social sciences and labor. This transformation originated with the change in the social sciences hegemonic paradigms in the early 1980s; from that milestone emerged what he calls "new labor studies", that recognize substantial theoretical and thematic modifications. This essay is the result of an exhaustive review of the region’s production in the field of labor studies from its origins to the current period, in which he explicit the main themes and trends of interest: productive restructuring, labor relations, studies on trade unionism, socio-demography of work, and labor culture.
