Sumario:The aim of this paper is to present the results of the analysis of the bone remains of Myocastor coypus from the Barrancas del Paranacito site, located in the northern sector of the middle section of the Paraná River (Florencia, Province of Santa Fe). This site presents occupations corresponding to hunter-gatherer-fisher groups from the late Holocene and was excavated by Ciro Lafón on several occasions during the 1960s and 1970s. The zooarchaeological analysis of the remains of this rodent was initially carried out in a preliminary manner, limited to the calculation of its abundance in relation to the number of identified specimens (NISP). For this reason, we sought to deepen its study, expanding the analyzed sample, calculating relative abundance indices and evaluating the evidence of natural and anthropic modifications. The results indicate that coypu was a highly exploited resource at the site, mainly as part of the diet, but also for use of certain elements as a support for the manufacturing of bone instruments. These data contribute to evaluating the role of this taxon in the subsistence of the human groups that inhabited the Alluvial Plain of the Paraná River in the past.
