Sumario:From an evolutionary perspective, Mate Retention Strategies (MRS) are tactics aimed at preserving intimate partner relationships and safeguarding them against competitor threats, which may involve the use of violence. Within an associative-predictive design framework, this study examined the relationships between MRS and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) indicators in a sample of 53 men convicted of domestic violence or femicide in Bogotá, Colombia. Results showed that MRS involving direct vigilance and negative inter- and intrasexual incentives were significantly associated with and predicted various IPV indicators. The cluster analysis revealed two distinct groups: a minority cluster characterized by high MRS and IPV scores, and a majority cluster exhibiting moderate-to-low scores. The findings are discussed in terms of the evolutionary contribution to understanding intimate partner violence and its implications for prevention strategies.
