Sumario:Capitalist development in Latin America and the urbanization that was generated from it, has given rise to a very diverse system of cities where there is an underlying complex socio-residential problem that affects the quality of life of a large part of the population in the region. In this article we propose a review of urban transformations in contemporary Latin American cities, focused on what happened from 1950 to 2020. We believe it is necessary to address the incidence of the capitalist model in the configuration of cities, the specificity of urban transformations in Latin America, as well as the beginnings of housing policies and projects in the contemporary city and modes of public approach to housing problems in the region. With the purpose of collaborating in the understanding of such object, a literature review of European, North American and Latin American authors is carried out.
