Sumario:Considering the challenge of addressing urban informality in quantitative terms at a metropolitan level, the present article recovers secondary data sources that have georeferenced informal urbanizations in the territory, and put them in dialogue with the possibilities of census data to work at a micro space level. With this, we seek to analyze the sociodemographic and residential characteristics of the informal urbanizations in Gran Buenos Aires agglomeration in 2010, and the specificities of two forms that condense different socio-urban aspects: the “villas” and the “asentamientos”. Possibilities and limitations of this methodology are evaluated and, as a result, the particularities of these types of habitat are analyzed in terms of age structure, migratory origin, educational level, household’s composition and size, housing conditions, and the contrasts that emerge between them and with respect to the urban set.
