Sumario:The article presents the results of ethnographic research on some of the particularities presented by life policies in contexts of urban poverty. This is a research project developed between 2013 and 2016 in the metropolitan region of Buenos Aires, in the town of José León Suárez. One of the particularly relevant dimensions of poverty governability is violence. It focuses on the analysis of situations and events that express a modulation of life, which we propose to call violence towards life, thus denoting the relational and political power of violence. We present and reflect on the tensions that these situations acquire, understanding that they are part of the web of the government as it is assembled daily in these neighborhoods of the metropolitan city. Ethnographic research is the key to deepening the study and understanding of the microphysical modes assumed by life policies in contemporary metropolises.
