Sumario:The origin and trajectory of Social Work in the field of public health results from the combination of the professionalization process with power struggles, which include meanings around health, subjects, rights and the distribution of reproductive responsibilities between the State, market and families. The article, which is based on previous studies, aims to analyze the participation of Social Work in the intervention processes that are carried out in the field of public health. The distinction between intervention in health and social intervention present in the discourses of the agents and their effects on professional and institutional practices is discussed.
