Sumario:The article focuses on the art exhibitions organized by the communal government of the city of Córdoba during the first five years of the 1940s. It explores these events in a context marked by sabattinismo’s politics, a growing institutionalization of the provincial artistic field, and the intensification of modern debates about new art. These artistic expositions would play a key role in the future collection of the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts created a year later. The privileged aspects to analyze these art exhibitions are: the composition of the jury, the artworks presented, the award criteria, the artists’ associations and the role of the critique. By drawing attention to these aspects, we shed light on the nuances in the debates carried out. In addition, we observe the fluctuations that take place from the creation of this exhibitions to its institutionalization. The development of these exhibitions was characterized by permanent tension marked by contacts between the local and the national. These contacts are, from our point of view, crucial for the analysis of the complex factors that intervened in the formation of these specific art exhibition spaces in the city and their differentiation from other provincial or national art circulation spaces.
