| Sumario: | This article presents the will of Alonso de Villanueva Cervantes, originally from Mexico City, dated January 22, 1605, with the purpose of analyzing how the declaration “mortis causa”, as a legal expression of the will, generates legal effects on the assets accumulated during life after death. Special attention is paid to how this declaration contributes to the consolidation of hereditary rights through the institution of mayorazgo. The document, whose paleographic transcription is included, is preserved in the General Archive of the Nation of Mexico City, within the Branch of Links and Mayorazgos. |
