Sumario:This article aims to analyze the concept of ideology founded by Hannah Arendt. The central hypothesis defended is that understanding the modus operandi of ideological discourse offers a panorama for reflection that illuminates not only totalitarian regimes, but also the replacement of factual truth by the tyranny of self-propelled reasoning, a protototalitarian resource currently used by current governments. To do, the arendtian definition of ideology will initially be exposed, relating it to the laws of history and nature and to the departure of thought from the reality. Next, to understand how ideology smooths the path to terror, the totalitarian characteristics present in all isms will be indicated, as well as the ideological tentacles pointed out by Arendt in Origins of Totalitarianism: education, propaganda and discourses of the leader.
