Based on the analysis of student's translations, anonymous surveys and personal interviews to three students and one professor, I make an approach to linguistic representations and ideologies about three Spanish variants: peninsular Spanish, neutral Spanish and River Plate Spanish. My hypothesis is that those representations and ideologies lie behind the decisions translators make regarding two aspects that contribute to dialectally “mark” the Spanish used in translation: in the first place, the treatment systems chosen to translate second person pronouns and verbs and, to a lesser extent, lexical choices. Lastly, I intend to elucidate the level of awareness that translators have regarding their linguistic representations and ideologies and their influence on their own translation practices. En este artículo me propongo estudiar desde el punto de vista sociolingüístico la tarea de traducción del griego y del latín al español en la Escuela de Letras de la Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades (Universidad Nacional de Córdoba). Sobre la base del análisis de traducciones realizadas por estudiantes, de encuestas anónimas y de entrevistas personales a tres estudiantes y a una docente, efectúo un acercamiento a las representaciones e ideologías lingüísticas acerca de tres variedades del español: el estándar peninsular, el español neutro y el estándar rioplatense. Sigo la hipótesis de que tales representaciones e ideologías subyacen en las decisiones que los traductores toman en relación con dos aspectos que contribuyen a “marcar” dialectalmente el español de las traducciones: por un lado, los sistemas de tratamiento que se escogen para traducir pronombres y verbos en segunda persona; en segunda instancia, y en menor medida, las elecciones léxicas. Intento, finalmente, dilucidar el grado de consciencia que los traductores tienen sobre sus representaciones e ideologías lingüísticas y sobre su influencia en las prácticas de la traducción.
