description Museum collections have recently gained a significant representation in archaeological research. These materials are currently a valuable data source which goes beyond their museological or heritage value. An appropriate methodology applied to these collections could thus improve our knowledge of prehistoric societies.                This article presents the analyses of Doncellas pottery collections (Northern Puna, Argentina). They reported both qualitative and quantitative differences in their technological properties and formal and decorative aspects. These data preliminarily suggest functional intrasite differences which may reflect the social, economic and political life of Doncellas inhabitants. A series of research lines allowed the comparative study of these collections: style analysis which testifies the coexistence of pottery traditions of several origins, either Chichas, Incas or local, as well as metrical and morphological estimations which explore the daily activities in the site. The results offer a picture of the potential function of a site strategically located in the prehispanic network during the Late-Inca period.
