| Sumario: | The present article approaches and interprets Rafael Alberti’s Vida bilingüe de un refugiado español en Francia, a set of poems published in Argentina in 1942. This work had been written between 1939 and 1940 in France, during the first period of Alberti’s long lasting exile, though. Considering the motive of the flâneur suggested by the itinerary throughout Paris, which invokes Baudelaire, Apollinaire and Aragon, in a key moment of Alberti’s poetry, we discuss the formal resources of the verses and the way they address the literary tradition. In addition, and from a wider perspective, Vida bilingüe enables us to investigate the condition of the poet and literature in a period that announces the most horrifying episodes of human History. |
