description In the east-central portion of the Santa Fe province (San Jerónimo, La Capital and Las Colonias Departments) poor bone preservation is a characteristic feature of the regional archaeological record. Therefore, during the last decade, a study of bone diagenesis at different bone levels has been under development. Part of this research was focused on the construction of predictive spatial models of bone preservation based on the analysis of specific properties of soils using geographic information systems (GIS). These models have been evaluated with information obtained from the analysis of bone remains recovered from regional archaeological sites. On this basis, this paper presents and discusses new predictive maps for a broader coverage area, which includes the Middle and Lower Paraná River basin (Santa Fe, Entre Ríos and Buenos Aires provinces). The aim is to provide an appropriate interpretative framework to discuss the variation in bone preservation conditions in the south of the Litoral region of Argentina.

En el centro-este de la provincia de Santa Fe (departamentos San Jerónimo, La Capital y Las Colonias) la mala preservación ósea constituye un rasgo característico del registro arqueológico regional. Por este motivo, durante la última década se encuentra en desarrollo una investigación orientada al estudio de la diagénesis ósea a diferentes niveles de organización de los huesos. Parte de la misma estuvo centrada en la generación, mediante el uso de sistemas de información geográfica (SIG), de modelos espaciales de preservación ósea diferencial basados en las propiedades de los suelos. Los modelos generados han sido evaluados, y continúan siéndolo en el presente, con información obtenida del análisis de restos óseos recuperados en sitios arqueológicos del área. En este marco, el objetivo de este trabajo es presentar y discutir versiones ampliadas de tales modelos espaciales para un área que incluye la cuenca media e inferior del río Paraná (provincias de Santa Fe, Entre Ríos y Buenos Aires), con el objetivo de proporcionar un marco adecuado para interpretar la variación en las condiciones de preservación ósea en el sur de la región del Litoral argentino. Por esse motivo, durante a última década, foram realizadas pesquisas sobre o estudo da diagênese óssea em diferentes níveis de organização óssea. Parte dessa pesquisa se concentrou na geração, por meio do uso de sistemas de informações geográficas (GIS), de modelos espaciais de preservação óssea diferencial com base nas propriedades do solo. Os modelos gerados foram, e continuam sendo, avaliados com informações obtidas da análise de restos ósseos recuperados de sítios arqueológicos da região. Nesse contexto, o objetivo deste artigo é apresentar e discutir versões ampliadas desses modelos espaciais para uma área que inclui a bacia média e baixa do Rio Paraná (províncias de Santa Fé, Entre Rios e Buenos Aires), com o objetivo de fornecer uma estrutura adequada para interpretar a variação nas condições de preservação óssea na região do Litoral Sul da Argentina.
