In Aloma (1938, rewritten in 1968 and republished in 1969) and El carrer de les Camèlies (1966) this topic becomes particularly interesting because the relationship between mother and son or daughter never appears in the diegesis, it’s an “imagined motherhood”. This figurations of the future child intertwine constantly with the imagination of the space in a movement of approach and distancing in different levels, generating an intersection between domestic and urban spaces and female body thresholds. Focusing on critical places and moments (pregnancies, abortions), we will be able to observe how these two aspects put the protagonists and their imagination in motion. Como han señalado algunos lectores críticos de Mercè Rodoreda (María Asunción Gómez, Jaume Martí-Olivella y Geraldine Nichols, para nombrar algunos), la maternidad y las madres son figuras importantes en su obra. En Aloma (1938, reescrita en 1968 y republicada en 1969) y El carrer de les Camèlies (1966) este tópico se vuelve particularmente interesante ya que la relación entre madre e hijo o hija no aparece nunca en la diégesis, se trata de una “maternidad imaginada”. Estas figuraciones de la criatura futura se entrelazan constantemente con el imaginario espacial en un movimiento de acercamiento y alejamiento en diferentes niveles, generando un cruce entre los espacios domésticos y urbanos y los umbrales del cuerpo femenino. Centrándonos en los lugares y momentos críticos (embarazos, abortos), podremos observar cómo estos dos aspectos van poniendo en movimiento a las protagonistas y a su imaginación materna.
